They're definitely worth it. ^_^ But, it's best to go to a smaller one for your first convention. I lucked out with AMA, which is a pretty small anime convention (it's about the size of Anthrocon, IIRC.)
My first fursuiting experience will definitely warrant a post of its own. ;)
